Rooted in Jewish tradition. Open to all.
Named for Betzalel ben Uri, the Torah’s first named artist, our gallery was founded to give the Jewish community a dedicated space for artistic expression. Each exhibition is themed around the Jewish calendar — from Sukkot to Purim to Shavuot — weaving together art, heritage, and the rhythms of Jewish life. We are proudly volunteer-run and rooted in our Shul community on Long Island.

Passages
Rosh Hashanah marks a turning point in the Jewish year — a moment to look back at where we've been and look ahead to where we're going. It is the season of teshuvah, of return and renewal, when we stand at a threshold between one chapter and the next.
Passages takes that idea and gives it form. A gate. A doorway. A window, a path, a bridge, an arch — each piece in this exhibition captures a moment of crossing, drawn from the work of artists across our community. Together, they reflect what was, and what is meant to be.
Betzalel Art Gallery is proud to bring this exhibition to Temple Israel as part of our ongoing celebration of Jewish life and community through art. Come welcome the new year with us, and see the season of return through the eyes of the artists who call this community home.

Passages
A gate. A doorway. A window, a path, a bridge, an arch. Each is a passage — a marker between what was and what is meant to be.
As Rosh Hashanah opens the new year, we are invited into a season of teshuvah: return, reflection, and renewal. This exhibition asks artists to find that same movement in visual form — the moment of crossing, the threshold before transformation, the space between one chapter and the next.
Passages welcomes work that shows a clear entry or crossing: gates, doorways, windows, paths, bridges, arches, or similar forms. A Judaic or High Holiday lens is welcome but not required — what matters is the passage itself, and what it opens onto.
